This past weekend I had the opportunity of meeting PRSSA Presidents from around the country at the PRSSA Leadership Rally in Scottsdale, Arizona. When I boarded my plane I expected a weekend of endless boring lectures from PRSA professionals in an arctic conference room. However when I arrived my expectations were immediately shot.

As soon as I sat down in the first meeting I instantly connected with the Presidents from the University of Alabama, University of Florida and Missouri State. Within ten minutes I learned about their chapters, goals and why they were a part of PRSSA. I was intrigued by their ideas and their passion for our organization.

The passion for PRSSA did not stop with just the Presidents, it was readily apparent in the professionals leading the conference. The first speaker Cathy Planchard from Allison + Partners focused on leadership and how to communicate effectively with others by taking into consideration others leadership styles. Other speakers emphasized the need for diversity in chapters, strategic planning and ethical practices. Each speaker exuded a pride for their profession and attributed their success to PRSA and the relationships and skills they have attained through their membership.

This weekend showed me core of PRSSA and how beneficial membership is. I connected with more than 100 chapters and formed relationships with student and professional leaders across the country. The network and opportunities that this organization presents are infinite. I cannot wait to get started with this year and put into practice all of the skills I gained from the conference. This is going to be an exciting new year for the SMU PRSSA chapter and I cannot wait to get started!
